The Madison Central School District Board of Education is pleased to announce that Dr. Abi Van Regenmorter has been selected as the next superintendent of schools for the Madison Central School District.
Dr. Van Regenmorter earned her undergraduate degree from Northwestern College in Iowa, her Master of Science in School Counseling from South Dakota State University, and her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of South Dakota.
Her career in education began as a school counselor in the Todd County School District and later served as the Elementary Principal in the White River School District. Dr. Van Regenmorter currently serves as superintendent and elementary principal for the De Smet School District, a role she has held since 2016.
Dr. Van Regenmorter and her husband, Dave, have three sons. Blake will graduate from DSU in May, Trace is a power lineman in Selby, SD, and Coy is a junior in high school.
School Board President Steve Nelson stated, “We had an outstanding pool of candidates from which to choose the next leader for the Madison Central School District. We are extremely happy that Dr. Van Regenmorter has chosen to be our next superintendent.”
Dr. Van Regenmorter shared, “I am honored to serve as the next superintendent of the Madison Central School District. I look forward to working alongside the Board of Education, staff, students, and families to continue building on the strong tradition of excellence while supporting the success of every student.”
Dr. Van Regenmorter will begin her duties as superintendent on or about July 1, 2026.

Madison High School is proud to announce that Graydon has been selected as a candidate for the United States Presidential Scholars Program. He is now an official candidate and has been advanced by the state of South Dakota for further consideration. He moves forward into the national selection process, where applications, academic records, leadership, service, and overall excellence are evaluated at the highest level. This recognition places him among the highest‑achieving students in the state. Congratulations to this exceptional example and his representation of Madison High School.
