UPDATE: After law enforcement investigated this incident statewide, it was found that this same computerized voice message was sent to schools in Utah as well as schools in other states and has been circulating to other schools across the country for months.
Please know at Madison Central we will always error on the side of caution, even though we were confident this message was not valid, we will always error on the side of caution until we can confirm there is no direct threat to our school.
At this point in time, we are now proceeding with a normal school day. I want to thank law enforcement for their help in investigating this situation.
I want all parents to know that the safety of our students and staff will always be our top priority at Madison Central!

Good morning,
I need to share information that we received this morning. We received a computerized voice mail concerning a judge and two individuals in the Utah area. The message goes on to state that a school could be a target.
As soon as we received this message law enforcement was contacted and it was investigated right away. The judge and two people named in this message are in Utah.
As we investigate this further, we are now aware of at least one other school in South Dakota located about 300 miles from Madison receiving the same computer voice generated call. Even though this looks to be a situation generated from the Utah area, we will proceed with caution as it is investigated further by law enforcement. And as a precaution, we will have additional police officers located in our schools until further notice while this is investigated statewide.
We will follow up with any new information as this is investigated further.

With the chances for heavy wind, rain, and the chance for severe weather for this afternoon, we the Madison vs. West Central softball game scheduled for today (Monday, May 6, 2024) at West Central HAS BEEN POSTPONED. We are looking for a date to make this event up.

Art can be created in many ways. These girls built this Lego castle in their free time at school, which included time at STEAM club. Our after-school STEAM club is possible due to a grant from our local United Way!
Today is National Lunch Person Day! We are so blessed to have a wonderful lunch staff that is caring and welcoming of our students. They create ways to make our student's lunchtime a good experience! Here is a picture of just a few of these awesome people!
MMS 6th Graders participated in a Quiz Bowl at Tri-Valley. They placed 1st and 4th! Well done students. Thank you, Mrs. Flemming and Mrs. Brunick for providing this experience.
MMS/MHS English Language Learners went to ICAP and read to the children. All of the participants enjoyed the experience! Thank you, Dr. Meyer and ICAP for providing this experience.
Because of the poor field conditions in Vermillion, today's (5-2-24) MHS Softball game at Vermillion HAS BEEN POSTPONED. This game will now be played on Saturday, May 4th, 2024 in Vermillion at a time yet to be determined.

With the strong chance for rain and thunderstorms forecast for the Madison area this afternoon and into the evening, the softball games that were scheduled for today (April 30th) between Madison & Brookings HAVE BEEN CANCELLED.
With the forecast calling for rain and thunderstorms this afternoon, the decision has been made to CANCEL THE MIDDLE SCHOOL TRACK MEET that was scheduled for today (April 30th). This event will not be made up.
A clarification on the start time of today's (4-29-24) MHS softball games against Tea Area. The start time for the varsity game will be 5:00pm - NOT 4:00 as is written on a couple of the calendars. Games will be played at the Thue Field complex in Madison.
Because of the poor softball field conditions in Madison, today's (4-27-24) MHS Softball games vs. Canton are BEING MOVED TO THE SANFORD SPORTS COMPLEX (FIELD #8) IN NORTHERN SIOUX FALLS. The game start time has been moved up as well. The varsity game WILL START AT 1:00pm and will be followed by the JV game at approximately 2:30.

With the additional staff day of May 22nd added to the calendar for staff In-service, the Early Release on Wednesday, May 1st has been changed to a REGULAR FULL DAY OF SCHOOL.
Because of the rain and cold, the SOFTBALL GAME vs. Castlewood today in Madison has been POSTPONED - we will announce a make-up a date as soon as we have one. The GIRLS GOLF dual vs. Lennox scheduled for today in Madison has also been POSTPONED to MAY 2nd.
