Born in Alameda, California but raised in Port Orchard Washington, Mrs. Mottl grew up in a military home. She lived in Washington until about 7 years ago when she and her husband wanted to travel more. Mrs. Mottl originally worked as a high ropes and zipline instructor, as well as a yoga coach. Mottl first came to Madison when her husband was hired by the police department. She was inspired to become a teacher after homeschooling her son since kindergarten. Initially, Mottl worked for a Washington school as a substitute. Madison hired Mottl as a chemistry teacher for the high school. Currently, she teaches Chemistry, Anatomy, and Microbiology.

Backpacking across the mounds in Europe, 100 miles and 28000 feet in height, hiking the Appalachian trail, backpacking coast to coast, visiting the continental trench, and the hiking trail from North Dakota to the Appalachians are all things Mottl can cross off her bucket list. She sure does lead an action-packed life and for now, she is happy to stay in the small town of Madison, SD.

Mrs. Mottl will be leaving MHS at the semester break. We hope she enjoyed her time here.
