Delilah Maxwell

On Friday, November 11th, Madison High School held its annual Veterans’ Day Program for our veterans. Delilah Maxwell (above) won second in the area for the VFW Voice of Democracy Essay and Emerson Lindley (below) represented the Senior class as a special speaker with her speech. The topic this year was “Why is the Veteran Important?

Delilah is a freshman this year, starting off high school strong in receiving the nomination for presenting her speech at the Veterans’ Day Program. In her speech, she introduces the feelings of relatability by also stating the struggles of life as a veteran. She briefly states how having family in the force helps appreciate those that are out there alone, as well as those who gained the mental struggles of being a veteran.

Senior announcer Emerson provided a well-rounded idea of what it means to be a veteran. With the connection of a Navy veteran in her family, her great-grandpa, her speech established a great overview of having pride and support for our veterans. As she wonderfully stated, “they have sacrificed more for our country and what it stands for than the rest of us could ever imagine, and that deserves the respect and gratitude of everyone in our country.” These words concluded the student-speaking portion of the program. The program left us with the inspiration to be forever grateful for our veterans and the country they fought to save.
