The Spirit of Madison marching band had a very successful season this year and their scores show the great improvement they made from week to week. They performed their show, “All Aboard,” multiple times throughout the last few months.

The marching band performed at their first competition on September 18, in Marshall, Minnesota. The Spirit of Madison took 6th place with a score of 59.5. In the following weeks, the band continued to improve with scores of 67.1 and 65.5.

At their 3rd competition in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, the band took 5th place and also received the Spirit of the Festival award. The following week in Orange City, Iowa, the band received 3rd place with a score of 72, and the Triple “S” award. Both of these awards recognize the spirit and sportsmanship of the band and showcase the dedication each member puts forth throughout the season.

At the final competition of the season, the marching band performed their show at the Quad State Marching Competition. The band performed one of their best shows of the season and was rewarded with a 1st place finish. The Spirit of Madison earned their highest score of 78.5 points and received all caption awards.

The band faced many challenges this year such as not competing last season and meeting a new band director, but they showed great resilience and strength. The new director, Terrence Kenny, talks about the improvement the band made this season.  Mr. Kenny reports, “I am very happy with the way our marching season went this year. Going into the start of the year, I told all the kids to be ready to work hard and they did just that. All of their hard work and extra time paid off as we continued through the season. It was a lot of fun working with this show and I am already getting excited for our show next year.”
