Senior Spotlight: Haley Wise

Wishing she were born seventy years ago, Haley Nikole Wise says that she would thrive in that era. The 1950s would be Haley’s time to shine; it had all of her favorite things: fashion, hair, and makeup. Unfortunately, she was born in 2002, but Madison High School is beyond thankful to have someone like Haley in our school. On a fall day in October, in warm Tucson, Arizona, a baby girl was born. All grown up now, she has a bubbly personality that lights up a room, and her laugh is contagious.

When Haley talks about her home life, she snickers. She says, “There is never a dull moment.” Haley Nikole was born to Betty and Shawn Wise. She has one older sister (Claudia), three older brothers (Sean, Bailey & Bryann), and one younger brother (Hayden). Haley claims that she looks as if she is adopted compared to the rest of her family. Everyone has tan skin with dark brown hair while Haley has fair skin with light brown hair. Haley is very close to her family, especially her three nieces. She loves “spoiling them and bringing them around in the summertime to help out her sister.” Haley tells me that if she had $5 million to spend in 5 days on someone other than herself, Haley would give the money to her brothers and her sister’s kids. This shows the nature of Haley and how truly caring she is.

In addition to attending Madison High School, Haley works at One Stop, where she says it is quite “interesting at times.” Of course, she needs her job to support her favorite guilty pleasures such as One Stop cookies and chocolate ice cream with Oreos. Those cookies are her favorite treat after a long day at work, and her top cookie flavors are chocolate chip, turtle, or birthday cake. She later described to me the last year in terms of ice cream; rocky road would be an accurate description because it had lots of bumps but also had many sweet moments.

Haley has many goals for the future. After graduating from high school, Haley plans on going to Stewart School to study cosmetology. She is passionate about hair, makeup, and nails, so this will be the perfect career choice for her. Haley also wants to learn ways to improve her skills, such as how to do facials on clients and new hair techniques. Haley will attend Stewart School alongside her sister, Claudia; the two plan to go into business together once they both finish cosmetology school.

Imagining her life ten years from now, Haley tells me that she wants, “to have a family, a golden doodle, to own a business with her sister, and to slow down and enjoy life.” From what I have seen throughout the years going to school with Haley and being on sports teams with her, I can tell you that she will accomplish all the things she wants in life. Her positive attitude and determination will take her far.
