Senior Spotlight: Tyler Reck

If you're looking for a guy who loves to eat smoked meats like brisket and ribs, you've come to the right place. Tyler Alan Reck is a 17-year-old senior at Madison High School. He lives in Wentworth, SD, where you can find his family of 6. His family consists of his dad, Kory; his mother, Melissa; his two older sisters, Kayla and Lizzy; and his younger brother, Logan. You can find him working hard at Sunshine Foods, where he helps stock shelves and bag groceries for customers. During his free time, he loves to hang out with friends, hunt, fish, and play sports. He takes a lot of pride in his sports of baseball and wrestling.

An animal that he would describe himself as is a tiger because they can be gentle, but once you make them mad, they can be really mad. The food that he describes himself in the last year is Chinese food because once you get to know him you’ll realize it’s not as bad as you think. If he could live anywhere in the world for a year, it would be in the southern part of the United States because of the food, and he likes how welcoming it is down there.

One thing he couldn’t live without is money because he said, “money can buy almost everything.” If he had 5 million dollars to spend in 5 days, but couldn’t spend any of it on himself, he would spend a little on his family by moving them to an acreage. He would also give to his church and charity for cancer. If he could recommend anything, it would be just to live your life and says, “if you live life without anything scaring you you're going to get the best out of life.” When asked who his role models are, he answered by saying “My grandpa is my biggest role model, he’s shown me that hard work pays off.” Another role model of his was his great-grandmother who taught him to always look on the bright side of things and never give up.

When it comes to school his favorite subject is history because he likes to learn about where we came from and learn how not to repeat the mistakes. In addition, he would like to fulfill his bucket list by going to every World War II museum in the United States. He would also love to go to Germany because there are a lot of WWII artifacts there. His favorite movie is a WWII film called, Unbroken Broken. When asked what character in a movie he would like to play, he responded with “Rocky” because Rocky is his favorite movie series.

After high school, Tyler wants to go to Lake Area Technical College and major in either Automotive Technology or Welding. He also wants to minor in Emergency Medical Technician, EMT, and Fire Science. In ten years, Tyler hopes to be living in either Colorado or South Dakota, happily married, two kids, and a job having to do with cars.
