Senior Spotlight: Colby Briggs

If you asked him what his favorite food was, he would tell you tacos. If you asked him why, he would say “because they’re just good.” Seventeen-year-old Colby Briggs is a senior at Madison High School. He comes from a family of five including his two older sisters, Morgan and Ashley, and his father and mother: Wade and Jennifer Briggs. He lives on a small farm just on the outskirts of Madison.

Colby is currently employed at Red Horse, where one of his daily tasks is stacking seed bags. But unlike some teenagers, Colby enjoys hard work because he needs something to occupy himself during his free time. His favorite subject in school is Agriculture, not only because of the teacher but also because he likes working with wood and animals. Hunting is something that he also really enjoys doing, including fishing. Colby would recommend that everyone try out bow hunting, as he likes to describe the feeling as “fun and exhilarating”.

Although Colby has never read any of the novels, he really enjoys the movie series, Harry Potter. Given the opportunity to play any character, he would choose to be Harry because of the scar on his head that is very similar to the lightning bolt on Harry’s. When asked what television show Colby try out for,  he would choose Survivor or Exotic Island. He finds them entertaining to watch and thinks it would be a fun experience to be a contestant on the show.

If Colby was given five million dollars to spend in five days on anything other than himself, he would most likely spend it on his family and charity. If he had a superpower, he would want to be able to read minds because that way he would know when people are telling the truth or when they are lying. His favorite color is purple, similar to the same color as his favorite football team, the Vikings, including his favorite player, Adam Theilen.

Although Colby has a fear of snakes and heights, he would choose to go skydiving as one of the first things on his bucket list. After hearing about the experience from his sister, it sounded fun and exciting. He would also like to travel to all 50 states in the country and visit their national parks. He would most likely drive because he hates flying. If Colby could live anywhere in the world, he would pick Montana for its beautiful scenery.

After high school, Colby would like to go to Lake Area Tech, where he would study to become a mechanic. When asked where Colby sees himself in ten years, he thinks he would live in Pierre, continuing his career as a mechanic. Colby is a very determined, hard-working person with the characteristics of accomplishing anything he sets his mind to.
