Senior Spotlight: Kanyon Janssen

Kanyon (no, not the Grand Canyon)  Lee Janssen, is a 17-year-old senior at Madison High School. Kanyon, a member of a family of 5, has always preferred to live in a small town, so the city of Madison, South Dakota is the perfect place for him to live. This small town can be big enough to keep Kanyon busy all the time.

Kanyon used chicken strips to make an analogy to his everyday life. He said that chicken strips are something you can find at almost every restaurant, so they’re everywhere, much like Kanyon is. One of Kanyon’s favorite things to do in order to keep himself busy is to procrastinate when it comes to something that he doesn’t want to do. Working, however, is something that he enjoys on a daily basis. You can find him at Interlakes Sports Center in Madison where he does anything from sweeping the floor to helping fix jet skis, motorcycles, and ATVs. In school, Kanyon prefers the history classes to keep him busy because he finds them very interesting.

When Kanyon finds himself not having anything to do, he finds that his life depends on his phone to not only entertain him but also to keep him awake. When he’s not tired, Kanyon is watching Sons of Anarchy, his favorite TV show, or Star Wars, his favorite movie franchise. In fact, if Kanyon could play any movie character, it would be Anakin Skywalker because he thinks it would be really cool to be a Jedi.

Although it’s quite a challenge to get Kanyon to read a book, he probably wouldn’t mind reading a book about the place he would like to live: Alaska. He says he would like to live in Alaska because of the fishing. Although one of his worst fears is falling through the ice, Kanyon said he wouldn’t have any problem spending an entire week ice fishing. Alaska is perfect because Kanyon describes himself as a night owl, and it’s dark for most of the day during the winter.

Kanyon’s favorite color is black, his favorite food is chicken strips, and he would recommend Colgate toothpaste to anyone in the market for a good quality toothpaste at an affordable price. Of course, much like any other boy at some point, he dreams of having a superpower. Kanyon wishes he could move faster than the speed of light because going fast is something he enjoys. Perhaps this is something that he will be able to achieve in the future.

In the future, Kanyon wishes to give $5 million dollars to his dad for him to spend on Kanyon. This would probably be a better situation than Kanyon having the money because he says his poor spending habits might make him homeless in ten years. Although Kanyon has not decided what he wants to do after high school, he could see himself being a groundskeeper on Keeping Up With the Kardashians. Something else that Kanyon could see himself doing is making a professional gaming YouTube channel. Be on the lookout for Kanyon’s YouTube channel and debut on Keeping Up With the Kardashians.
