Senior Spotlight: Isabel Gors

As you walk through the halls of Madison High School, you will find a senior who never stops working hard, or talking. Eighteen-year-old Isabel Dawn Gors, better known as “Izzy”, has been involved in many athletics throughout her high school career. Whether she is cheering at a football game, playing softball, running track, or at a gymnastics practice, she is always motivating others and working as hard as she can. Izzy’s passion for sports is even the reason for her current employment at the Madison Gymnastics Academy. Through countless hours of practice, Izzy has learned what it means to be part of a team.

Izzy has also learned this skill from being the middle child in a big family. Having two younger siblings, she has learned how to be a leader and set a good example for them. At the same time, she has two older siblings that she looks up to. Family is extremely important to her. They have had the greatest impact on the person she is today. When given an imaginary amount of $5 million to spend on anything except for herself, Izzy immediately said that she would spend it on her family. Izzy and her family have moved five times. While she was born in Sioux City, she still claims that Madison is her home. Through everything that has happened with COVID-19 she has come to the realization that South Dakota, quite definitely, is the best place to live. While thinking 10 years in the future is scary for her, South Dakota is the place she imagines herself living. Her other goals are to have started her own family, working, and most importantly, “living the dream”. For Izzy “the dream” is having vacation homes in warmer climates.

Her list of fears feels small when compared to her goals. Izzy has always wanted to go skydiving, as she feels that it would, “motivate her to believe that she can do anything.” Another item on her bucket list is to stand at the top of a mountain. A few of her fears include spiders, snakes, and Walmart (having been followed a few too many times). Though her greatest fear, quite possibly, is the fear of failure. This is the reason behind all of her hard work. Whether it’s academics, athletics, or something completely unrelated, you will never find Izzy giving less than 100%. In school, Izzy would choose a math class over anything else. This is because in math the answer is either right or wrong, there's no room for opinion. Izzy’s intelligence might be the equivalent of a superpower to some, although, if she could pick a supernatural power she would have the ability to turn invisible. This would allow her to get things done without being interrupted, and it would also just come in handy.

With all of the athletics that she is involved in, her job, and getting good grades in school, there isn’t really time for her to do anything else. In her sparse free time, you will most likely find Izzy eating some form of potatoes, watching an episode of New Girl, and deciding on her new favorite color, which seems to change all the time. You also could find her using the one thing she couldn’t live without, besides water, her phone. While her plans for the future are not set and stone, one thing that showed throughout the entire interview is that Isabel Gors can achieve anything she sets her mind to. With her hard work and determination, nothing will stop her from reaching her dreams.
