High School Survival Guide: Study Tips

Many students are last-minute crammers, or don’t know how to study, so they simply don’t. With tests and quizzes being so stressful, everyone should have knowledge of studying, which will help throughout your whole life, especially in college.

Make sure you have a very comfortable, and well-lit study space. Is your chair comfortable? Can you read all of your papers? Is everything tidy and not cluttered? These are the first questions you should ask yourself before you start to study. Being relaxed and comfortable is the first step to a better study session.

Having an organized system for taking notes will help you with the study process. Being able to understand what you wrote will make studying more of a refresher instead of re-learning. This will also help your brain find information easier on the page. Use colored pens and highlighters to separate your notes from main points and explanations. In case the first system of notes doesn’t work, try a different way to figure out what will help you the most.

Taking care of yourself is an important part of studying. You want to make sure you are eating foods that fuel your brain. Instead of eating junk food all the time, eat foods like carrots, apples, and other healthy choices. These will help you keep up your energy and focus. Drinking the required amount of water a day has been proven to help you gain focus, as well as increase brain activity and brain functioning speed. Caffeine is great, however, you might crash at any moment, stopping your study session.

Everyone is different, so remember that you need to find the study system that works for you.
