Senior Spotlight: Corey Poppen

Corey E. Poppen Jr. is seventeen years-old. He lives in town, but prefers to spend his time on his farm in Howard because, as he says, there is more freedom. Corey’s favorite color is red, because it’s a bright color. His favorite food is pizza, more specifically supreme pizza. Corey’s favorite tv series is Supernatural. His favorite movie is Wonder, and his favorite book is "I am the Weapon" by Allen Zadoff.

Corey has a large family in which he is the middle child. There are five people in his family. He has his mom, Sarah, who works two jobs at Best Western and Classic Corner, and a dad, Corey Sr., who works in the maintenance department at Falcon. Corey has an older sister Morgan, a CNA at the hospital; and a younger sister, Shelbie who goes to pre-school at St. Thomas.

Corey works at Ace Hardware. What he loves most about his job is helping customers and delivering items. Corey could not live without his truck, he says, because it never let him down. Corey has learned a lot in high school and would tell younger students that “the more you try the more you will achieve.”

If he could do something with out failure, Corey would would like to try scuba diving. Corey joined the Army National Guard in November, and when he graduates high school he will go to basic training and eventually work as a 91 Sierra Stryker System Maintainer. If he could have any super-power it would be super-speed, because he could get places faster.

If he had five million dollars to spend in five days and couldn’t spend it on himself, he would donate it to a car museum and would buy his father's dream car. One day Corey wants to be a contestant on American Ninja Warrior, because it looks fun and really competitive. Dean off of the show Supernatural fits his personality best. One day, Corey hopes to have a big house where there "would be more room to store stuff." Corey sure is ready and excited for the next phase of his life.
