Senior Spotlight: Nathan Mapp

If anyone were to go downtown in Madison, they may notice a small family run store called “Kydenjae Designs,” and if they were to go inside they would see a charming, young man helping press designs into shirts. This student is Nathan Emmanuel Mapp, age 18 since New Year’s Eve’s Eve, and he is quite the helper with his family’s business. Though he helps press designs onto shirts, he also is a great artist who helps design pictures for the store. Nathan has drawn loads of interesting pictures, most are of what interests him, like an epic Star Wars dual or a picture of Deadpool that glows, because it’s colored with highlighters.

Starting at a young age, Nathan has loved ninjas and superheroes, finding himself often watching shows like Ninjago and Ben 10. Nothing was more exciting than watching the sword fights and action-packed adventures of characters that he felt he could relate to. Nathan says that the character of Benjamin Tennyson from Ben 10 would best describe him because he felt he could relate to his struggles in school. Now, Nathan continues his love for ninjas and superheroes by watching shows like Titans, Deadpool, and the Kill Bill movies, which he says are currently on Netflix and would recommend to anyone who likes a good action movie. However, unlike movies and shows, he isn’t the biggest fan of reading books. He says that he doesn’t have a favorite, but if he had to choose something to read it would probably be the Harry Potter series.

Nathan’s family currently consists of just him, his younger sister, his mom and dad. He also has an older brother and two older sisters who have moved out. They used to live in Oklahoma, before moving to Madison, South Dakota five years ago. One of Nathan’s favorite things about going to Madison is the fact that he gets thirty more minutes of sleep compared to the school schedule in Oklahoma, which started at 7:30. He and his family always enjoy each other’s company. They will often go out to eat pizza (Nathan’s favorite food) at Pizza Ranch, however, they used to get pizza from Cicis or Little Caesars, which were more available in Oklahoma. Nathan says that when he and his family are in public they tend to be loud and obnoxious to other people, but they always enjoy being with each other and making each other laugh.

If Nathan were to ever acquire five million dollars that he could spend on someone else, he says he would get his family presents, like a new car for his mom and a big screen television for his sister. The rest would go to charity and getting better chairs for the school. Though making five million dollars would be amazing, Nathan says that he would be satisfied if he just made one million dollars in his lifetime.

Before Nathan leaves high school, he hopes to get his name on the wrestling wall of fame. After high school, Nathan plans to join the Navy as well as use what he has learned in Ag. classes to become an Aviation Mechanic. He would prefer to have a more physical job where he can work with his hands. He hopes to be married sometime in the future and eventually have two kids and a steady job. Another thing on his bucket list is to travel out of the country. Nathan would like to go to Canada someday because he’s heard that people are really nice there. If he had to describe himself as a food, he would describe himself as an avocado: tough on the outside, soft on the inside. Nathan really just wants to do something good that people will remember him for.
