Senior Spotlight: Mason Avery

Mason Avery was born on September 26th, 2001, into a family that  consists of his mother and father, Rich and Liz Avery, and his two brothers, Lance and Lucas. His father is a mathematics professor at DSU, which probably contributes to the easy decision of his favorite subject, math. His mother works as a human resource manager at East River. He is a proud uncle to his brother Lucas’ 4 children.

If given 5 million dollars, he’d spend it on his family to reduce their stresses. You can find him living in the countryside of Madison, but not on a farm. He procrastinates often, but finds consistency in defying odds and completing tasks on time. He recommends staying organized, as it helps reduce stress in life. Organization is a skill of his, as he currently works at the Madison Public Library, where he cleans book shelves, shelves books, and works at the front desk with patrons, whom he loves working with.

Hot stew describes the last year of his life--there are many ingredients to be found, like the many pieces in life he is involved in, though it is cooked and served hot, similar to how he has successfully managed all of his tasks. He aspires to be like Ron Swanson from Parks and Recreation, though claims Micheal Scott from The Office is a national treasure. If he were on any TV show, he’d like to participate in American Ninja Warrior for the sheer prestige of qualifying for it alone. He is a cat-lover and shares similarities with Garfield, notably a strong passion for pasta with red sauce. The ability to fly would be his superpower of choice, which would solve many problems for him such as longer, complicated travels.

His favorite memory in high school was being crowned Homecoming King, as it meant a lot to him and he had a great time that entire week. He plans on attending the University of Nebraska-Lincoln after high school, and in ten years he sees himself just recently entering the workforce, beginning his career as an actuary in business. He hopes to one day be a CEO or CFO if the opportunity arises.
