Senior Spotlight of Amy Hopf

Amy Beth Hopf is a 17-year-old senior at Madison High School. She lives on a quaint acreage of land just North of Madison. Amy has two older sisters, Ashley and Haley. Penny is the name of Amy’s mother. She also has two adorable nieces, Harlee and Sierra, and an equally adorable nephew named Lane. Amy shares her acreage of land with many pets including her two dogs, Lucy and Herman, and two cats, Mustache and King.

Amy’s favorite color is purple or green and her favorite food is Chinese. She enjoys reading, more specifically, she enjoyed reading Catch 22 by Joseph Heller. Her go-to television show  is That 70’s Show. Her favorite superheroes are the Power Rangers and one year she even dressed as the pink one for Halloween. Amy’s favorite song is “Strawberry Fields Forever” by The Beatles, but if she had to bust one out at a karaoke club it would definitely be either “Don’t Stop Believin’” by Journey or “Africa” by Toto.  If Amy could pick any movie to watch again it would be Yesterday. Her favorite holiday is Thanksgiving because she gets to spend time with her family, whether it be watching the big football game or making, what she called, “crappy crafts.” Amy’s favorite meal is chicken Alfredo and bread sticks, washed down with an ice cold lemonade.

Amy is in the high school band. She is an amazing saxophone player and she has been 1st chair for the last two years in not only the concert band, but the jazz band as well. She also featured in a beautiful solo in the jazz band’s performance last year during a rock ballad called “After the Rain”. She also soloed in the marching show called which was titled “Bent”. Her solo in the marching band’s show is actually her proudest accomplishment to date. In fact, when asked what she is truly passionate about, her fist answer was music, along with animals and the environment. Mrs. Decker, the band teacher, is one of Amy’s mentors. Amy described Mrs. Decker as, “always having the right things to say in any situation and she genuinely cares about her students and wants to help them be the best that they can be.”

After high school, Amy plans to attend the University of Northern Colorado. There she plans to major in music education with a minor in either jazz or music performance. In the ten years after high school graduation, Amy would like to see herself putting her degree to work as a band teacher and living in a big house somewhere. The advice Amy would like to give to underclassmen is to “always find time for yourself and your interests.”
