Senior Spotlight of Mya Maxwell

Mya Gross Maxwell, graced this Earth 17 (and a half) years ago on March First, 2002. A worldly woman with great ambitions, she is sure to go far. At this time she resides at home with her mother, Jennifer, and her father, Jason, and three sisters, Delilah, Sienna, and Bella.

Mya is a highly involved student in and out of MHS. A natural delegator and spirited disputer, she has spent four years on the school’s debate team and participated in student congress for two. She is a member of the school’s FCA, NHS, and FBLA chapters, as well as the prom committee. She is also the Maroon Newspaper co-Editor and has written for the paper for the past three years. A prominent political figure, Mya has been a part of student council for seven years and is the Senior Class President. Outside of the classroom, Mya is exceedingly active. She’s invested eight years into tennis, competing at state throughout her high school career. Golf has also been a constant for Mya, her career spanning eight years. Swim team and power lifting are two other sports Mya participates in.

A highly skilled and multifaceted individual, Mya likes to keep her options for the future open. Ideally she would like to live in a big city with lots to do, a good amount of free time, and money for travel.  Mya’s goals stretch far beyond the city limits. When prompted with the question of where she would visit if given the chance, she answered frankly: everywhere (Even Antarctica). She loves to take in each and every aspect of a place; the culture, food, architecture, history, and people all fascinate her. She loves to be present wherever she visits, taking in the sights and other senses. Already a jet-set traveler, She has seen the coast of Costa Rica, the cliff faces of Malta, and before the end of the year, she will see the sands of the Dominican Republic. It may be hard to believe, but these are only a few of the stamps on her passport. France, Italy, Germany, and within the year, Greece, can also be checked off of her list.

In all things Mya is passionate, whether it be her zeal for Gordon Ramsey (preferred Dancing with the Stars Partner, biopic actor, and game show host), or her drive to leave her mark on the world, preferably as a lawyer or engineer, though she isn’t too picky. For Mya, no challenge is too great. Confidence is the hallmark of her character. She’s an astute debtor who will not take no for an answer.

No foe is too great, whether on the tennis court, or maybe one day, in the courtroom. Even in the face of humanity's greatest challenge, the mystery ingredients on Food Network's Chopped, she keeps her cool. While many would be baffled at the presentation of  Japanese sweet potatoes, blueberry balsamic vinegar, Mexican chorizo, and chicken liver, Mya knows exactly her course of action: “I would make Chicken liver with a side of sweet potatoes marinated in balsamic vinegar and I would throw out the chorizo because I don’t know what that is.”

In her future plans, no matter what they may be, Mya is sure to be successful. Her relentless drive to go further shines in everything she does. A natural leader with a great sense of self, Mya could hand out justice in the court of law just as easily as she could produce a New York Times bestseller. But for now, Mya is staying true to her personal anthem. After all, who wouldn’t want to be the “Dancing Queen”, young and sweet, and only seventeen.
