The javelin event consists of specific techniques for throwing a javelin. For boys, the javelin is roughly 8 feet long and weighs 1.76 pounds. For girls, it is about 7 feet long and weighs 1.32 pounds. The goal of the javelin event is to throw the javelin as far as possible while remaining inbounds. If you or your javelin come out of bounds, the throw is counted as a scratch, similar to the other field events, discus, and shot put. Javelin become an event in Class A in 2022, however, it was not a state event. There was much talk in hope of it being hosted at this year’s state meet, but as the season approaches, it does not look like it will take place at state. As of now, there is no final answer to whether or not it will be there, I guess we will have to wait and see what time brings!
