Through the Madison Education Foundation, the 3rd graders at Madison Elementary School, were able to attend a field trip to De Smet, SD to learn more about Laura Ingalls Wilder and pioneer life.  The students have been studying pioneers for the past couple of weeks and ended the unit with a fun filled day at the Ingalls homestead.  While they were there, they heard a presentation on the timeline of the Ingalls travels, they even visited the first original home they lived in.  The 3rd graders saw an original covered wagon and learned about the first sod houses built. The day ended with a visit to the schoolhouse Laura Ingalls Widler and her sisters attended, as young girls and an exploration of animal pelts.
