Calista Elise Sahr is the daughter of Bob and Christine Sahr and the younger sister of Ally Sahr. She is also informally known as “Tung Tung Sahur” to her frontline band section, where she has been section leader since her sophomore year. Calista says her dad has “inspired my love for jazz music,” and she has enjoyed participating in band for seven years. Music is an important part of her life, and you can always see her in the hallways with an AirPod in, probably listening to Adrianne Lenker, The Marias, or Doja Cat. Calista has worked at the Lewis Pharmacy as a clerk, and she says the most rewarding part is making a positive impact on people’s health and daily lives. When she finds free time in her busy schedule, she enjoys playing piano, hanging out with friends, reading, and watching shows. Calista’s favorite show is Attack on Titan or Mob Psycho 100, and her favorite book is Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint. She enjoys the Spiderman movies as well, and says she would want to be Miles Morales so she could swing through a city on webs.
Some things that come easily to Calista are memorization and sports. Calista has participated in varsity volleyball, tennis, cross country, and track throughout her high school career. Calista enjoys creating Quizlets to help her study for all her classes, and she says she “spent 32,000+ minutes on Quizlet last year.” If she were to have an online platform, she says her content would be about study help, travel, or music. Calista says she would love to live in California due to the mountains, the ocean, and the weather. Her bucket list consists of traveling the world, especially national parks, becoming fluent in Spanish, learning to salsa dance, and going on a backpacking trip. Calista hopes to go to Thailand, Japan, Switzerland, the Dolomites, and New Zealand. If she had five million dollars, she would use it to travel, pay for medical school, buy a marimba, and give some of it to charity.
In ten years, Calista hopes to be well-traveled, starting her residency, and enjoying life to the fullest. She lives by the quote “Carpe Diem,” which translates to “Seize the Day.” Her most memorable moment so far was presenting her own research at a research symposium, and she said, “It was awesome seeing what I spent my whole summer on paying off.” She is proud of herself for creating her own club and placing 2nd at the girls’ state tennis tournament during her first season. Calista plans to go to college for Medical Biology with a minor in Spanish, and hopes to become an anesthesiologist. She hopes MHS remembers her for encouraging leadership and making a difference while still having fun. Her advice to the underclassmen would be to “join sports, clubs, and other activities to get the most out of high school.”
