Junior year: the process begins, the questions start, and the choices are established. The big questions everyone is considering are: Where should I go to college? Do I want to go to college? What do I want to do with my life after high school? College is one of the most important parts of the junior and senior years of high school. It is ultimately the deciding factor of what an individual’s life will be like.

The college decision process is a huge weight that lies on the shoulders of high school students all over the world. Many struggle to decide on different aspects such as location, price, social pressure, and the campus environment. Choosing a college weighs heavily on many because of the pressure they feel around them or even on social media. There are always factors that push and pull people in certain directions, and leave people wondering if the decisions they are making are for themselves or for others. The draw to stay close to family and go to college with familiar faces can be an aspect of college that plays into the choice made. Another thing many consider is the location, price, and campus environment of the school to see if it is the best fit for them. The thoughts of flights home, driving distance, and the campus atmosphere are all underlying the bigger picture. Overall, there are so many factors that play into the decision on where to go.

In my personal experience, I had never really struggled with the decision on where to go. However, I did waver on my choice of major. Although majors can be switched in college, I wanted to find one I was confident was the right fit for me. After my time working with kids through my church, swimming lessons, and my internship, I concluded that elementary education was the right fit for me and I look forward to the road ahead!
