As a student who doesn’t learn the fastest, I have dealt with a lot of teachers who get impatient or frustrated easily. I understand that everyone has different strengths, but one thing I know for sure is that teachers who help students the most are ones who remain patient and understanding and are willing to meet students where they are. Every student learns differently; a teacher who can explain something differently and assures the student that it is ok to struggle creates a supportive learning environment. By doing this, students are less likely to feel embarrassed or discouraged; they feel more comfortable and encouraged to ask questions. In a classroom full of empathy, students are sure to stay more motivated to learn. Small actions such as offering extra help, letting them know when they are doing a great job, or providing someone to talk to when things are tough can make such a difference. Ultimately, the teachers who make the biggest impact on students are those who provide an understanding atmosphere where kids are sure to thrive.
