Google.com claims that that word "nostalgia means: a bittersweet yearning for a past time, place, or experience, often romanticized.
As I enter my last semester of high school, I find myself reflecting on all the experiences that are soon to be considered “in the past.” Every day I enter the school building is one day closer to the end of being with the kids I have grown up with my whole life. I enter this season with a heart eager to see what the future holds for me, but a part of my soul is sentimental for all of it coming to a close.
I know that as I take the steps into my future, I will meet people I never knew existed, have new experiences, and experience the world. However, there will always be the memories in the back of my mind of the place that was the source of some of my greatest moments. All of the memories I have will forever be building blocks for my future.
I believe the word nostalgia greatly describes the feeling of moving forward with life, while periodically taking a moment to remember the moments that shaped us into who we are. I will never forget the high school football games with my best friends, senior homecoming week and all of the memories that week brought, playing my last tennis match, and performing the last note on the marching band field. I will take those memories and look at them with a heart grateful for the life I can live and a mindset that the nostalgia I feel about certain moments is just proof that I am living a life worth missing.
