Wicked: For Good explores the backstory of the classic tale, The Wizard of Oz. This continuation of Wicked closes out the story between Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo), Glinda (Ariana Grande), The Wizard (Jeff Goldblum), and the rest of Oz. In this musical installment, Elphaba and Glinda face many challenges while fighting for what they believe and desire. They struggle with identity and friendship as they fight to save Oz.
The wonderful actors create a number of beautiful, heartfelt scenes, displaying the magic within Oz. Musically, the actors possess incredible talent, displaying their emotions through song as well as acting. Incredible vocals and skilled acting throughout various scenes leave many audience members in tears.
While the magic within the film makes it a true masterpiece, it does have its faults. Wicked: For Good progresses slowly, frustrating many original Wicked fans. This expansion from the original Broadway musical removes a great amount of suspense and emotion. Once the action starts, the pace picks up, but a large segment of the movie lacks this intensity.
The parallels between Wicked and The Wizard of Oz baffle many audience members. The storyline brings together the stories, explaining the world the characters live in. The introduction of Dorthy and her friends brings together the timeline, tying the story together. The integration of these characters serves a large role in the story progression, but its brevity leaves many confused.
This film beautifully displays love, pain, and heartbreak, all through song.
