How often do you listen to music, and do you know that it affects you? Whether or not you listen to music can affect your mood, stress levels, and even brain activity.
Upbeat music lifts people up and creates a more cheerful environment. Starting your day with music sets your mood and can affect the outlook you have on the day. All of this is due to the dopamine that is released when listening to music.
Music serves as an outlet for communicating ideas and expressing emotions. Along with this, individuals who frequently listen to music have been shown to have higher IQs, or a more enhanced mental performance.
In addition, it reduces stress levels, whether one is creating music or just listening. Studies have shown that people undergoing medical procedures encounter less stress when listening to music.
Emmett Brown, the assistant band director at Madison High School, states, “Music has been a big part of my life in one way or another ever since I was little. As Mrs. Richard’s wall says, ‘Music is what feelings sound like.’ It’s brought an immeasurable amount of joy into my own life, and I share my love of music with others in hopes that a bit more joy and peace can be brought into our troubled world.”
