Everyone has their own “icks” or pet peeves, especially when it comes to things people say. We may despise when people talk about the same topic all the time, or whine a lot. Have you ever thought about how there are things students say that teachers may find an “ick”? After asking several teachers, here are the results.
It turns out most teachers don’t like it when a student speaks with uncertainty or negativity. For example, Mrs. Gonyo despises the phrase “I don’t know,” as it doesn't indicate any consideration for the question and Mr. Ludemann doesn’t like any form of “sure” or “maybe”. All of these phrases show that the student didn’t put any thought into their answer. This gives a lazy look to the students. In addition, both Mr. Bundy and Mr. Ludemann are not fans of when students call others a “try hard.” Similarly, Mrs. Unterbrunner says she does not like when students say “I can’t.” These answers display great negativity and make teachers disappointed when students think this way.
With this being said, students should try their hardest to have confidence when talking, especially with their teachers. They should also always do their best in the classroom.
A few fun facts: Mrs. Gonyo absolutely cringes when students say “hey,” and Mrs. Troxell is not enjoying the trend of students constantly saying “six-seven.”
