In this article, I will be attacking the burning question: “What is it like to be a middle school student?” I interviewed my little brother Bode, an eighth grader, in order to gain insight into the daily life of a middle school student. Starting off the day, while Bode waits to acquire his driver's license, he makes his way to school by electric scooter. The first class of the day on a regular Monday morning is Physical Education. Right now, they are playing nitro-ball, which is part of their volleyball unit. After physical education, Bode has art class, and during the middle of class is when the bell rings, indicating it is time for Bode to go to choir practice, where the class is working on the songs for their Christmas concert.
Following choir Bode goes to lunch, where he eats pizza every day, and then noontime activities where Bode plays football with his friends. Once he is done playing football he has social emotional learning and then science, where he is learning about energy. Finally, Bode has a reading class where he is reading The Girl Who Was Supposed to Die.
After school Bode either goes home or hangs out with his friends. “I dislike it when Mom says to come home,” says Bode. He says most days he has homework; however, he prefers to put it off until the last minute. Bode's favorite part of his day is his physical education class because he has fun and it wakes him up for the day. Bode’s day is filled with many classes, friends, and other activities. “Always do your best, never give up even when it gets hard. That's it,” (Bode Anderson, eighth grader at Madison Middle School).
