Senior Spotlight: Elizabeth Ellingson

Elizabeth Mae Ellingson, better known as “Lizzy”, was born on August 9th, 2001. Lizzy is an 18-year-old senior at Madison High School. Her expansive family consists of her mother, Kristy; father, Chris; and step-father, Andy; as well as 1 half-sister and 1 half-brother, in addition to another 3 step-siblings. She resides near the golf course where she has lived for most of her life.

Lizzy loves her family but also enjoys having time to herself. When she is older, Lizzy desires to live in Arizona, as that is where most of her family lives. When she isn’t spending time with her family, you can find Lizzy watching creepy, mysterious shows such as You, or reading a mystery novel. She loves how these types of shows and books manage to keep you guessing and leave you wanting more. If she could only watch one show for the rest of her life, she would choose to watch Dateline because it fits into the category of mystery but is about crimes that have happened in real life, and she is usually captivated by learning about them. However, mystery isn’t the only genre she limits herself to. Lizzy also enjoys shows and movies about reunion and reconciliation, as is demonstrated in her favorite movie, Broken Bridges. If she could, she would want to play the main character in that movie, Lindsey Hahn, as she finds out who she really is throughout the film.

In her free time, Lizzy is also involved in numerous activities both inside and outside of school. As it goes for activities in school, Lizzy is involved in golf and does cheer for the wrestling team. She has been a part of both of these activities for all 4 years of high school and while her proximity to the golf course may not have sparked her interest in the sport, it certainly couldn’t have hurt. As for outside of school, Lizzy is involved in dance at Madison Avenue Dance. She has been committed to dancing ever since she was 4 years old. The one type of dancing that she would recommend to others is pointe dancing, as it helps to build muscle and develop your skills even further.

Lizzy also managed to have a job at Subway until recently. While Lizzy did quit her job, she loved the people she worked with and enjoyed seeing all the faces that would come in to the store. If there is one thing that is overwhelmingly obvious about Lizzy, it is that she loves people and loves to help them in times of need. If Lizzy were given $5 million dollars, she would donate it to a hospital or a child-related facility to help out the people who really need it.

In the future, Lizzy hopes to attend the University of Sioux Falls to major in elementary education and continue her passion for helping others. She has always loved working with kids and lives to see the ah-ha moment in them. If given the choice, Lizzy would teach anywhere from kindergarten to second grade. While she doesn’t have a specific place that she would like to teach, she sees herself teaching somewhere outside of Madison 10 years from now.
