Senior Spotlight: Olivia Comes

Olivia Comes is a creative and artistic person who likes to read. She lives in Madison, South Dakota, is the daughter of Heidi and Chad Comes, and sister to four siblings. She is the second oldest and currently the oldest sibling living at home. These are a few of Olivia’s favorite things: the color dark blue, spaghetti, the television show “The Office”, and her favorite book is The Great Gatsby.

Olivia thought she could compare her last year to celery because it was not super enjoyable but it was still good for her. Even though no one wants to live without their phones, one thing Olivia could not live without is her sketchbook. Rarely can she be found without her sketchbook, as she uses her art to escape to her own imagination when she’s feeling stressed. As a movie character, Olivia admires the Black Widow because she is confident even though she doesn’t have any special powers.  When asked who she would like to have dinner with, dead or alive, she responded with her grandpa, Terry. He passed away four years ago and she would like to hear his stories one more time. When she was asked what author she’d like to sit down with, she answered, “Janette Oke.” Olivia said that Oke writes wholesome, heartwarming stories that are comforting to read.

Oliva stays busy with two jobs: one at the Community Center in the daycare and another one at Camp Lakodia. She really enjoys working with little kids. This has led her to consider becoming a teacher for her profession. Olivia would like to go to college for civil engineering or teaching, as of now she is undecided. In ten years she sees herself living in a ‘biggish’ city, with a successful career and living completely independent. Being independent is important to Oliva, so she would like to live for a year in the remote wilderness to see if she could survive on her own. One dream she has is to open a business and would love to be a proud owner of a successful photography business.
