Senior Spotlight: Anthony Peters

Anthony Jacob Peters, more commonly known by AJ. is the son of Jeremy and Angela Peters and a caring brother to Michael and Isaac. One interesting fact about AJ and his family is that there is only one girl in their family, which is his mom. The family of five live on an acreage north of Madison.

AJ is an eighteen-year-old who has excelled throughout many things during his time at MHS. In fact, school is what AJ is best at. His favorite subjects are math and science, especially physics. With his strong knowledge in these areas, AJ is looking forward to going to college at South Dakota State University, where he will further his education in a civil engineering degree. From this, he would like to pursue structural engineering. He found the fit of this degree best for him due to his appreciation for the different designs of buildings and they have always intrigued him.

Last summer you would find AJ  at the golf course where he worked many hours, cleaning up the course. However, this summer you won’t find him there. Instead, he will be looking for something new, he is hoping to find something that is related to engineering. In AJ’s free time you may catch him watching his favorite TV show, Game of Thrones, watching the movie Rise of the Planet of the Apes, or reading his favorite book, 1984.

If AJ could play any character in a movie it would be Batman. According to AJ, Batman is someone who helps people out of the good of his heart. AJ believes he replicates Charlie Brown because he is always trying new things even if it doesn’t work out, he is going to keep trying new things throughout his life, even if he may not know what to expect from it.

One item AJ couldn’t live without would be his car. He chose this because without it he wouldn’t be able to get from place to place due to him living out in the country. If AJ had the opportunity to live anywhere in this world it would be Italy; he would like to see all the many attractions along with the different types of architecture Italy has to offer. AJ is the type of person that if he could try anything and not fail, it would be to form a plan to make America dependent on renewable energy. If AJ had five million dollars to spend he would spend it on organizations that build wells for African people that give them the opportunity of clean water.

AJ states, “I recommend open-mindedness because you can’t always understand situations. You must think about things more slowly, rather than rushing into things and getting ahead of yourselves.”  One thing AJ learned how to manage is balancing all the responsibilities he had throughout high school. His busy schedule includes lifting in the morning, wrestling after school, school work, and picking up his younger brother.

Ten years from now AJ hopes to graduate with structural engineering and have a good job while living in a big city. He also hopes to have a nice house or apartment with a wife and a dog that he adopts from a shelter. Lastly, AJ’s advice to underclassmen is to not worry about what people think and to try your best at all times.
