Senior Spotlight: Samuel Souter

On July 27, 2001, Samuel John Souter made his entrance into the world. He is the son of Scott and Chris and older brother to John and Adam. Sam works at F&M, where he enjoys getting to meet and talk with new people on a daily basis. Sam also works part-time as a fishing guide which is also something he really enjoys. When he is not working at F&M, you can find him outdoors. He loves to go hunting, fishing, camping, and anything that allows him to spend time in the great outdoors.

Sam is a very active person and enjoys numerous activities, especially during his favorite season, fall. According to Sam, the weather during fall is perfect for being outside. One of his favorite things to do is go hunting, as well as fishing throughout the year. Finally, he really enjoys playing hockey. Before he lived in South Dakota, he was a resident of Minnesota where he played hockey. This is something he would like to take up again.

Sam’s love for the outdoors is evident. When asked what movie character best defines him, he answered Christopher McCandless, the main character of Into the Wild, which is Sam’s favorite movie, as well as The Wolf of Wall Street. Aside from watching movies, Sam sometimes enjoys reading, but only occasionally. Actually, he only reads when he has to for school… sometimes. Speaking of school, Algebra II and Chemistry are subjects he has yet to find a use for, “They never have and they never will [be useful].''

Sam would also like to play the character of Jordan Belfort from The Wolf of Wall Street, and if he could be a contestant on a reality show, he would want to be on The Bachelor, because Mrs. Gonyo recommended it since he didn’t know of any other shows. If someone was to give him 5 million dollars, which he would appreciate very much, he would put 4 million into the stock market, give $100,000 to each of his parents, spend $5,000 to help his dog Chester get better, and then he would buy a Corvette and a new truck.

After high school, Sam plans to attend Lake Area Technical Institute in Watertown, SD. He plans to study Business and Marketing with the hope of someday starting his own business. When asked what kind of business, he eagerly responded with a variety of options. He is most interested in a dog training business. He would also like to raise pheasants and have a guided hunting business. Ten years from now, he sees himself living somewhere in northern Minnesota or South Dakota with his family. He also hopes to have started his business and have his own house. His overall goal is to be living a good life, be successful, and be happy just like his grandpa.
