Deep within the frigid waters, located far into the Scottish highlands of the revered Scottish lake, lies an enormous monster. Loch Ness holds an ancient secret that has been lying in wait for thousand of years. Or, is there even a secret to tell? The first account of the Loch Ness Monster dates back to 500 A.D., way back in the beginning of the middle ages. For a reference of how long ago that really was, the crusades wouldn’t start for another 597 years and the Islamic prophet Muhammand, the man who began the religion of Islam, wouldn’t be born for another 70 years. So, to recap, the Loch Ness Monster theory is older than the religion of Islam. If a theory has been around that long, there must be some substance behind it.
The theory that has been swimming around is that ‘Nessie’ is a Plesiosaur. A plesiosaur is an “extinct” water reptile that used to live around England. Or, does live near England, depending on who you ask. If you ever look at a photo of the monster, it’s hard to ignore the striking resemblance between it and the dinosaur.
Since starting this article, some new information has bubbled to the surface. A group of New Zealand researchers recently visited the Loch Ness to learn about the flora and fauna of the region and came back with a striking discovery. After testing the water of the lake they found a large amount of European Eel DNA. In fact, they found so much DNA that scientists are theorizing that Nessie is just a large eel. Llocals still believe in their local legen, saying it nots a giant eel, but its hard to ignore the scientific proof provided by the investigation.
